The works began in May 1937, at a critical time for the Basque forces. The works were intense and the airfield was ready by June 6, 1937. According to the historian Koldobika López, for its construction “about 350 workers participated in 10-hour days. The track was 850 meters long by 200 meters deep, and the longitudinal direction of the field was oriented in the north direction of the winds ”(p.117).
Despite the speed of the work for its completion, the Ugarte airfield “would never be used by the Northern Armed Forces, as it was too close to the front and did not improve the existing ones.”
Currently, there are no vestiges of the aerodrome.
